DELWEN STANDER

Delwen was born in Port Alice, British Columbia.  He was raised and educated in over twelve cities and towns in Rhodesia, South Africa, and Canada.  After working for years as an insurance underwriter, an insurance broker and agent, and briefly as the owner of a construction company, he obtained both a B.A. and an L.L.B. from the University of British Columbia.  Delwen articled and practiced with the Vancouver firm of Davis & Company for 6 years, before leaving in 1994 to found the Fraser Valley firm of Sliman, Stander & Company, which grew from 1 to 14 lawyers over 11½ years.  He left this firm to found Stander & Company on December 1, 2005, in order to concentrate on litigation and mediation solutions, including Christian Peacemaking.

As a Christian lawyer and mediator, Delwen has read and trained extensively in the techniques and philosophy of the form of alternative dispute resolution which involves a faith-based approach. Consequently, he offers unique mediation services for those civil litigants and disputants who are Christian, and who seek to resolve their disputes and make peace in accordance with the Scriptures and the tenets of the Christian faith.

Delwen has a wide variety of experience in various disputes involving churches, governments, institutions, businesses, farms, municipalities, societies, strata corporations, and individuals, and has assisted Christians in disputes as diverse as partnership disputes, contract disputes, estate disputes, and congregational disputes (among others). 

Delwen has been involved in over 400 mediations and peacemaking sessions, and he qualified to be a professional mediator in 2004.  He has been a peacemaker in many disputes in the Lower Mainland, the rest of B.C., and elsewhere, and is available for these anywhere.
